Polysilicon SiliconSilicon dioxide is the 2nd most common element of the earth’s crust with virtually endless supply and is the primary material that makes up the cells in solar panels. This is the material that SolarWorld begins with for the manufacturing process where we melt the polysilicon rock into a white-hot liquid. It is then resolidified into a single large crystal with the atoms in perfect alignment, structure and orientation to create the cells for the solar panels.
